Werneth Primary School Raises £500 for Water Aid

Posted on by Bright Tribe

Bright Tribe Trust academy, Werneth Primary School, has raised a fantastic £500 for world-wide charity Water Aid in just over one week through a bake sale and other fundraising activities.

The fundraising was part of a wider initiative looking at the lives of others around the world and how we can all help those less fortunate. The children learnt about the importance of clean water and the impact on others when clean water is not available.

The initiative was managed by Rekha Chauhan, a higher level teaching assistant at the school and key pupils from across the school were involved in the project, from promoting the bake sale to actually making and selling the cake.

Chris Wilcock, a representative from Water Aid visited the school during a special assembly to teach the pupils about the importance of clean safe water and show them how their fundraising efforts will improve the lives of others across the world.

On meeting the children, Chris said: “On behalf of Water Aid, I want to a say a big thank you for your fundraising efforts and for thinking of those less fortunate children around the world. Just a small amount of money can make a big difference.”

The money raised for Water Aid will go towards building water pumps in villages in third world countries and teaching communities how to build sanitary toilets to prevent diseases from spreading.

Water Aid works with local partners to help communities access safe water and sanitation. They use practical technologies and make sure the right skills exist in the community so they can keep them working long into the future.

Well done to everyone at Werneth Primary School!
