Summer school success at The Whitehaven Academy
Posted on by Bright Tribe
Last week The Whitehaven Academy ran a summer school for Year 5 and Year 6 primary school pupils from the local area along with their current Year 7 pupils from the academy. The week was packed full of fun and creative activities to suit all children – from coding and computing to netball, crafts and rock climbing.
The main aim of the week was to provide a smooth transition for the new Year 7 pupils who will be starting at The Whitehaven Academy in September.
The children chose two activities from the list below, one morning activity and one afternoon activity, and followed then through for the full week – developing their skills, engaging in their learning and making new friends.
- Free running
- Archery
- Basketball with Manchester Giants
- Creative glass
- Rock climbing
- Netball
- Games coding (Geek Week)
- Orienteering
- Canoeing
- Art
- Cookery.
During Geek Week, the children worked with experienced developers to design and build their own games. The week was delivered by Bright Tribe Trust’s technology partner, The Knowledge Network, who wrote a daily blog bout the week – take a look at the site to see what they got up to and look at more photos.
The pupils were asked to sum up their week in a few words so we’ve put it all together into a Word Cloud.
