Haydon Bridge High School Sixth Form students celebrate A-level results success

Haydon Bridge High School celebrated success in today’s A level results, marking yet another year of excellent academic and personal achievements for students at the school.  This year’s results saw a significant rise in the number of students gaining grades of AAB with 6% more students achieving 3 or more A levels at this high level.Value added is once again positive, indicating that Haydon Bridge sixth form students make more progress than the national average from GCSE to A Level.

Students celebrating particular success include Dominic Weller who gained two A* grades in maths and chemistry as well as an A in physics and now intends to study medicine at Newcastle University.  Kathraine Dixon also achieved success with straight A grades in physics, maths and chemistry and now plans to study physics at Lancaster University.  Ruby McCormick achieved a Distinction in Level 3 BTEC  Health and Social Care (A Level equivalent) and a Distinction in Level 3 BTEC Business and a C in A Level Sociology.

Judith Greene, Executive Principal of The Bright Tribe Trust,Haydon Bridge High School, said, “I would like to start by congratulating the students on their achievements and thanking staff and parents for the support given this year. There have been significant changes in the A level syllabuses, and our students and staff have responded well to these as indicated by their good results. We are extremely proud of the achievements of our 6th form students.  2017 has been another outstanding year for students taking A Levels and also vocational courses. Results for vocational equivalents of A levels continue to be well above the national average, with the average grade at Haydon Bridge being Distinction-star.  There were some commendable individual performances.”
